Wall Mounted

Hood Width: Wall-mounted range hood should be at least as wide as the range.
Hood Height: Range Hood should be between 30" and 36"(C) above your cooktop.
Depth: for a range hood depth that is the same or less than your range depth. Your range hood should be deep enough to cover all rear and front burners to most effectively vent your cooking space.(Make sure there are no bumps and no obstruction to cooking)

Island Mounted

Hood Width: Island-mounted range hood is recommended to be 3"-6" wider than the cooking area.
Hood Height: Range Hood should be between 30" and 36" above your cooktop.
Depth: for a range hood depth that is the same or less than your range depth. Your range hood should be deep enough to cover all rear and front burners to most effectively vent your cooking space.

Ventilation System

Internal: Generally Recommend. Motor in hood. Ventilation System with Built-In Motor and Liner Inside the Range Hood. These vents are easier to install because everything is contained within the hood, making them more convenient for retrofits or simpler installations.

Remote: The blower is located outside the range hood, usually in a remote location like an attic, basement, or exterior of the home. A remote blower is quieter than an internal motor. While it requires more complex installation since the blower and the range hood are connected by ductwork. This setup often requires more space and planning.

Ductless: A ductless hood vent insert is a type of range hood system that does not require external ductwork to vent the air outside. Instead of venting the air outside through a duct, these hoods use a filter system to capture grease, smoke, and odors, and then recirculate the air back into the kitchen. The filters in ductless hoods need to be cleaned or replaced regularly to maintain their effectiveness at removing odors.
